Whenever people go traveling there is always someone who likes to ask you ‘what are you wearing to travel in?’In the past, I could never get my head around why people would want such information and indeed whether it was even important what clothes I wore to travel in. As the years have gone on however and I have racked up the travel miles, I have learned just how important your clothing selection is when it comes to traveling and whilst I am still not sure why people feel the need to ask this, I sure as hell know why it is important.
If you have a flight coming up soon, here is my advice on what kind of clothing choices you should be making.
Before deciding on your clothing options, you should consider how long you will be flying for, if you are looking at a flight of 2 hours or less then you can comfortably go ahead and wear whatever you like to travel in because in reality, two hours is not enough time to cause any problems. If the flight is over 2 hours then you are going to need to be strategic with your clothing choices.
One of the toughest things to decide upon is managing your temperature whilst you travel, especially if you are going to be arriving somewhere hot. If this is the case then you must resist the temptation to go in your warm weather clothes because when you are flying at 12,000 feet, things will get much cooler up there. The best course of action is to take some warm weather clothing with you and wear jackets or jumpers which can be removed if it is too hot.
With a flight that is over two hours long, I would opt for comfort over style every single day of the week. Plane travel is not enjoyable if you are wearing rigid clothing or high fashion and instead you should opt for something which you would be more accustomed to wearing on the sofa on a Sunday afternoon. This is very important if you want to sleep on the plane as well because a 3 piece suit does not lend itself to affording you the comfort of catching 40 winks whilst you are flying, don’t be a slave to fashion, get comfortable and feel great.
When it comes to what shoes you should wear when traveling, the only thing that I will say is that you must avoid wearing boots or rigid footwear. Unless you have paid for extra leg room on the flight, you are going to be extremely uncomfortable if you wear boots or chunky trainers. The best course of action in my opinion when it comes to footwear during your flight, is something simple which you can slip on and off with ease and a pair of shoes or trainers which do not take up too much space.
