Canada
Canada is easily one of the most obvious choices when it comes to hiking holidays. With countless areas across the country to get your hike on, it’s got a wide swathe of natural beauty and wonders to explore by foot. The obvious choice for many hiking lovers is the area around western Canada – mainly in BC and Alberta where you can go hiking on many mountain trails throughout both. Alberta however also has a large area of Badlands which provide amazing hiking opportunities in a rather arid, desert-like environment with lots of opportunity to get hours and hours of hiking in. In the east, check out the Laurentian mountains of Quebec or the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia for two awesome suggestions.
UK
Hiking seems to be one of the national pastimes of the UK, and with such amazing places like the Peak District, Lake District, Scottish Highlands and border areas as well as some of the rolling hills of Yorkshire, there’s ample choice when it comes to picking the perfect place to explore by foot. Don’t forget some of the truly spectacular coastal paths that stretch all the way around the country, with Cornwall, Pembrokeshire and Dorset offering up some of the best coastal hikes you could ask for.
USA
The USA is a fantastic option for hiking lovers, much like Canada. There are plentiful locations throughout the country that offer up some options for spectacular hiking that can range in difficulty. Whether you’re traversing the Ozark Mountains in Missouri, the Blue Mountains of Tennessee, the coastal walks of Florida or California or the Rocky Mountain options in the likes of Colorado, there’s something for everyone. There’s also opportunities for desert hiking in the likes of Nevada and Arizona, but if you want the ultimate in hiking option, check out the California Coastal Trail – a mammoth trail that spans almost the length of California and even stretches up into Oregon and Washington. It takes between 3-12 days to hike the Californian part, making it an awesome challenge for those who want to get back to nature and maybe camp along the way.
Egypt
Egypt might sound a bit of a weird one to add to a list about hiking, but recently the South Sinai Governorate officially opened the Sinai Trail – an enormous trail that twists and turns through the desert, past rock formations and sand dunes to traverse much of the area.Spanning about 200 kilometres in total, this hike takes around twelve days to complete and involves the assistance of three different Bedouin tribes – a unique and exciting experience for anyone who likes to learn about different cultures and ways of life. The Bedouin tribes will act as guides and hosts, showing you through the desert, building camp each night under the stars and cooking meals for you in their traditional desert ways. The whole experience is a truly awe-inspiring one, and one you shouldn’t miss out on. Book a cheap flight to Sharm El-Sheik and see how you can get involved in hiking this brilliant trail that will have you coming back for more.
Whatever reason you want to get your hiking boots on and get back to nature, there’s a trail for that. These couple of suggestions only just begin to highlight the popularity of hiking, with some truly inspirational places to be explored all around the world. If you’re an avid lover of hiking, hopefully this short list will help you plan your next hiking or ambling holiday abroad. You never know quite what you’ll experience when you go on a hiking holiday in a new country. Good luck, be safe and have fun!
