Dog fashion and care has become big business in recent years as more and more people seek to give their dog the makeover that they deserve. Recent scientific studies have even shown that dogs appear happier when they are kept in good order and I myself have been investing in fashion pieces for my pooches for a number of years. Brilliant designers like Susan Lanci have been making some great pieces for dogs for a while now and she is among my favorite designers. The reason that people like Susan have become so successful is because they provide things that are both necessary and pretty, key considerations when it comes to making your dog fashionable. If you are planning on doing the same, here are some things to think about before sprucing your dog up.
One of the biggest things that you will need to think about before adding any clothing or features to your dog, is to think about practicality. For example, I have a labrador who loves nothing more than jumping in water, puddles, rivers, oceans, you name it, for this reason, it really doesn’t make much sense for him to be wearing a beautiful coat. On the other hand, I have a cockapoo who hates getting dirty and also has pretty sensitive feet, for this reason I will alway put shoes on her feet so that she looks great and feels comfortable.
It is vital that you remember that sprucing up a dog is not just so that you have a fashion accessory when you are walking about, it is always, always about the dog’s wellbeing. For this reason you always need to understand how the dog feels in the current climate. Just last week I saw a scottie dog that was practically shaved bald by its owner, with the ‘skirt’ style that many people are fans of, the only problem is that recently it has been very cold and I have no doubt that the dog was really suffering. Don’t be foolish, remember that your dog needs to feel comfortable, remember this before you next go to the stylist.
Much of giving your dog a great look is about common sense, think about where you live, what your dog’s behaviors are and how they feel with your newly adorned accessories. The best way that I have found to give my dogs a great look is by taking things that they would use anyway such as collars, leads and coats, and give them the makeover that can add an extra bit of style when they are walking the streets. If you approach this with a common sense attitude you will have a dog that looks cool, feels great and is very comfortable.
